Looking to have some fun this weekend but don’t know what to do? Want to try some new spots around town but don’t know where to go? Or maybe you just want to drink aimlessly in random places?
Well, Train Dice is the game for you.
The rules are simple:
- Head over to the nearest public transportation rail station
- Roll two dice.
- One die dictates how many stops to go. The other dictates how many drinks to have once you get there. You pick which is which.
- Go.
- Drink.
- Repeat step 1.
That’s it. Train Dice. The beauty is in the simplicity. Let fate decide what you’re doing today. Fate, and well, a bit of strategy. Grab some friends, grab some dice, and go explore some new drinking establishments in your hometown.
Still confused? Seriously? Weird. Well, ok then, we’ll walk through a quick example.
Let’s take the fabulous city of Atlanta and it’s rather sub-par, yet fully Train Dice-friendly, public transportation system, Marta. Now, let’s say that you’re positioned at the Inman Park rail station (E3). You roll two six-sided dice and and land a 3 and 5. You examine the rail map and determine that you can travel 5 stops to, say, the Civic Center (N2) where you’ll track down a nearby bar and put down 3 drinks. Or you can travel 3 stops to Decatur (E6) where you can enjoy a whopping 5 drinks at the Brick Store, The Grange Public House, etc. You choose the latter. 5 drinks later, you return to the Decatur Marta Station, roll the dice, and…
…and, well, you’ll just have to find out.
Get it? Man, I hope so. It really couldn’t get much simpler. And who needs complications when your drinking?
But wait, there can be more!
TRAIN DICE EXTENSIONS (OPTIONAL)
“Wow, letting fate be my ombudsman sure is fun!” you’re thinking. “How can I let fate control even more of my day?”
Easy. Train Dice Extensions. Follow the rules above (those rules are non-negotiable), but once you arrive at the bar and the bartender asks you what you’re drinking, roll the dice! Fate has told you where to go. Fate has told you how much to drink. Now, Fate’s telling you what to drink!
The number you roll determines what you drink. You can make up your own rules for Train Dice Extensions, or you can follow the basics:
- Cheap beer (Bud, Miller Lite, etc)
- Good beer (craft ales, microbrews, fancy imports)
- Cider
- Wine
- Single (shot or mixed drink)
- Double (double shot or double mixed drink)
The drinks above can be changed to fit your group’s strength and weaknesses, limited only by your imagination. Perhaps a St. Paddy’s Day-themed Train Dice Extensions where 1 = Guinness, 2 = Jameson’s, etc. Or a Cinco De Mayo-themed Train Dice Extensions where 1 = Mexican Beer and 2 = Tequilla, etc. Halloween-themed Train Dice Extensions. Jager-lovers’ Train Dice Extensions… The possibilities are endless!
SUMMARY
The rules to Train Dice are simple. One die dictates where you go, the other dictates how many you drink when you get there. But you MUST obey the dice. There is no negotiating a roll. No second tries. As soon as you choose not to follow the dice, you’re no longer playing Train Dice. You’re just going out. And what’s the fun in that?
So trust the dice. They know what you’re supposed to be doing. Obey the dice.
Now go out and roll. Roll, my friends, roll!
And give me a call while you’re out, and I’ll try to meet you. Assuming, of course, that the dice want me to.
